Hey everyone!
I’ve been very quiet for the last several months, since announcing that I received funding from Screen Australia to develop Zombie Outbreak Simulator for Android. Along with James and Tim, we’ve been busy working away at bringing ZOS on Android to life.
So, I am very happy to say that we are now at the stage where we can finally begin some very early beta testing! :D There’s still quite a lot to do, but we have the core game working. So perhaps it’s more like alpha testing… :)
Here’s a bunch of screenshots of the current build:
I think James’ new UI artwork looks awesome, and Tim is doing a great job on bringing the UI to life!
The key focus of this first round of beta testing is to try the app out on a wider range of devices. Way back when I first developed ZOS for iOS I only had to test it on about 4 devices to cover the full range of available iOS hardware. However there are literally thousands of Android devices out there – Google Play says there are exactly 4262 devices that ZOS is compatible with!! There is no way we can test it on all the combinations of devices out there, so we need your help!
If you’re interested in helping to beta test ZOS on Android, please fill out this form, and I’ll get back to you when we’re ready to start (should be within the next week).
Thanks!
Saxon
Hmm, I’m running version 2.2.2 of Android, but that isn’t on the list in the form…
Hi Raul, ZOS will require a minimum of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), so unfortunately it won’t work on your device :(

Aww, alright. Good luck with the testing!
I love the game but if looks like in the screenshots there will be a lot of features and maps not available on the iOS version. Would I be correct in assuming that there will be an iOS update once it releases for android? If not I would be kinda upset because true story half the reason I got an iPhone rather than a galaxy was for this game.
Hey Cody,
All of these screenshots are of features that are also in the iOS version (just different artwork).
But yes, there are a few extra features that we’re working on for the Android release:
– airdropping soldiers into the map
– rescuing civs with helicopters
– playing maps created by players with the editor at http://www.class3outbreak.com/editor
And yes, I plan to bring these extra features back to the iOS version as well. It will take a bit of work so won’t be available immediately though.

I’d love to test it out but sadly my android device is a kindle fire which is compatible with a large amount of android apps and games but Amazon does not allow you to use Google play if I were to test I would require an apk to be sent to me directly. But it is not necessary since there will be bugs that normal android ushered would not have. P.S. this is one of my all-time favorite games.
Hi Elijah,
I’m planning to release on Google Play only initially. However if it does well enough I’ll look into expanding into the Amazon store after the initial release. I’d need to buy a Kindle Fire so I could test it properly, and do a bit of work to make it compatible with the Amazon store, so I need to make sure it’s worth doing :)

Saxon
You can have one device for testing the game?
